JULIUS MARLOW FATHER'S DAY BREAKFAST, FATTO BAR & CANTINA
There were no dad jeans on Wednesday morning, just dad's genes as far as the eye could see as Julius Marlow, the official men's shoe of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, hosted a Father's Day breakfast at Fatto Bar & Cantina on the river terrace at Hamer Hall.

Party people: September 5
From launch parties to the runway, here's a rundown of last week's events in and around Sydney and Melbourne. Photo: Shaney Balcombe
Of early-morning, apple-cheeked offspring we wondered, what is the most dad-like thing your dad does? "He wears his pants really high," Samantha Downie said. "Not today," Robert Downie countered. "No, today he's got them lower because I styled him and he looks fantastic; my handsome dad."

"Extreme sports," Ben Swift said. That doesn't seem very dad-like. "It is to me! He does motocross, surfing, skydiving, hang-gliding, everything. That's where I get it from."
"He yells at me when I get another tattoo," Olympia Valance said. "That's only happened once, you can't count that," Ryko Valance replied. "Oh! This morning I couldn't for the life of me get my hair back in a ponytail and I was thinking, 'I remember when I was a kid and dad was the best person at doing my ponytail.' " What's the trick, other than big-dad-hands? "Years of experience and four daughters with lots of hair," Ryko said. And is a ponytail your strongest look? "A ponytail is definitely my strongest look, a high pony; I'm a high pony man."
Happy Father's Day.
NIKE SPORTS LUXE RUNWAY, MSFW HUB
At the Nike Sports Luxe runway in the City Square on Wednesday, part of Melbourne Spring Fashion Week's first day, ever, focused on sports style, we wanted to know about fitness routines . . . and we didn't ask just anyone. Middle distance runner Kelly Hetherington , who has represented Australia at the IAAF World Championships, said: "Generally we're two or three times a day, every day, but sometimes on Sunday we get just one. In our full block it's probably 14 sessions a week and that's not including physio and massage." How long is each session? "Sometimes they're only 30 to 40 minutes, sometimes they're two hours, it depends how long I talk," she laughed. "Our weights were two-and-a-half hours this morning." Is there a part of training that you find challenging? "100 per cent weights. I'm not cut out to be a strong girl. I've got all these little 15 year olds around me lifting about 10 times heavier." Where do you beat them? "In the endurance section. Once it's long-run-time, it's my time."
MSFW DESIGNER RUNWAY TWO, MELBOURNE TOWN HALL
"Sweet spring is your time is my time is our time, for springtime is lovetime and viva sweet love." E. E. Cummings has spring love covered so at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week Designer Runway Two we wondered about the most embarrassing thing you've ever done for love. Indianna Roerich and Amelia Cox had other ideas; they put their tongues in their cheeks to share their spring falling-in-love lessons.
"Don't wear boyfriend jeans until the third date," Roerich recommended. "Until then wear something a little more sophisticated, but nothing too tight. You don't want to show all of your goods in the one day."
When it comes to that very first date Roerich and Cox drew firm and funny parameters. You can't eat a burger, you can't eat Mexican, you can't eat sushi - "Sushi gets between your teeth" - you can't eat a salad - "He probably judges you for having a salad". "You know what, just get a Boost juice," Cox concluded. And then what do you eat when you get home? "Everything!"
