We all know the basics of a great party: good music, good grog and a good male to female ratio.  Everything else is cream.  At The Spring Party at Mossgreen in Armadale on Wednesday night, celebrating Mossgreen's 10 thanniversary, we wanted to know what unexpected ingredient  would take a party to the next level?

"If you want party, party, you need that one crazy friend who livens it up and makes everyone else feel normal even if they're not," Monika Clarke said.   What about the music, we  asked Ed Lower .  "I get teased about my taste in music," he said.  "The song that I'm smashing at the minute, the one that I shouldn't admit is, you know that girl band, that song, Ugly Heart .  I just put that on repeat by myself."

"An impromptu marriage," Prue Webb suggested.  "I was invited to a 40 thand then they got married."  So for the rest of spring and summer if you're at a party, someone has to get married?  "Ideally.  And there seems to be a lot of parties lately where there's a horse at the party," Webb said.  "A unicorn!" Zoe Walsh exclaimed.  "It's the natural progression.  A unicorn; but you've got to put that in context, it's only because it's moving on from the horses, not because I'm some weirdo going, 'A unicorn, a unicorn, I love unicorns!' "

Longevity is the rarest gift

Fiorina Jewellery 20th anniversary

A 20 thanniversary warrants celebration, even more so now, even according to Hallmark.  Traditionally the gift for a 20 thwedding anniversary was china but as longevity lapses, as stick-to-it-ness becomes increasingly unstuck, the modern gift for a 20 thanniversary has been upgraded to platinum.

At the Fiorina Jewellery 20 thanniversary at Graham Geddes Antiques in Armadale on Thursday night, guests celebrated Fiorina Golotta 's gift for creating covetable pieces and we wondered, what is the most wonderful gift you've ever received?

"Mine's so easy, it's diamonds," Francesca Golotta said.  "My ring that Fiorina designed; it has my engagement diamond and the trilliants represent my two children. So it has my husband and my children and designed by Fiorina and I'm happy."

Justin D'Sylva was just as happy, but a little rowdier: "My first drum set, but I smashed it, I was playing it so hard.  That's when I was into KISS."

"A Rubik's Cube," Marina D'Sylva said.  "I never solved it but I cried when it got messed up for the first time.  I just wanted it to stay as it was."
