There appears to be a link between parents who consider their kids more special than others and children with narcissistic traits, a new study finds.

The study, which appears in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, was conducted by lead author Eddie Brummelman, at the University of Amsterdam in the Netherlands, and Brad Bushman, a professor of communication and psychology at The Ohio State University.

"Children believe it when their parents tell them that they are more special than others," Bushman said in a release. "That may not be good for them or for society."
